Our family is prone to sensitive skin and most of us break out from most similar products, but not this one. We originally started using Medline Remedy Clear-Aid Skin Protectant with Olivamine for prevention and healing of diaper rash, as pretty much every other diaper rash medication gives my little ones severe skin reactions.
I discovered this little gem over 2 years ago when one of my kids was born prematurely. Her NICU nurses introduced us to it and once we got discharged, we went straight to Amazon so we could continue using it. It hasn't disappointed. In fact, we've been using it for many other skin care reasons as well - for the whole family!
Whenever someone breaks out in eczema, just has regular dry sensitive skin, or a diaper rash or other irritated area, this has helped it to heal extremely fast. Best of all, it hasn't irritated even those of us who usually can't use anything without getting even more skin irritation.
If you're looking for something to heal dry or irritated skin, even severe eczema and diaper rash, this has worked great for us even on tough spots, healing most irritations we experienced within minutes for the usual irritations. It hasn't taken more than a day or so for even the severe irritations. Our family highly recommends Medline Remedy Clear-Aid Skin Protectant with Olivamine. We make sure to always have one in the diaper bag and one in easy reach at home, too. *The author has not received any incentives from the manufacturer. This experience is all her own. Are you living with crooked teeth, but afraid of painful treatments and unsightly metal braces? If so, it's time to take a fresh look at orthodontia. Today there are many effective alternatives to traditional braces that fast-track treatment and keep your smile looking great during the process.
Invisalign The most well-known alternative to traditional braces is Invisalign. This system of clear aligners was revolutionary when it first entered the market twenty years ago. Invisalign allows the patient to correct spacing, crowding, and other orthodontic issues with invisible, removable aligner trays. Invisalign allows you to straighten your teeth discreetly and makes cleaning easier because the trays can be taken out for eating and brushing. The downsides of Invisalign include higher cost and difficulty in treating severe orthodontic issues. Lingual Braces Another aesthetic solution for crooked teeth is lingual braces, which move the traditional brackets to the backs of your teeth. Lingual braces are a great alternative for self-conscious teenagers and working professionals who want to avoid facing the world with metal mouth. Although lingual braces have the advantage of being out of sight, they are not necessarily out of mind. It can take longer to adjust to brackets and wires on the backs of your teeth, and cleaning requires extra care. Damon System Damon braces are the next generation of orthodontic braces. They feature a new and improved type of self-ligating bracket that holds the wire directly instead of with elastic bands. This technology moves teeth with much less force than traditional braces. The main advantages of the Damon system are faster treatment times and the ability to treat more difficult cases. They are also more comfortable and less conspicuous due to their smaller brackets. Damon brackets are available in a clear version for even greater aesthetic appeal. Wild Smiles Although most adults prefer minimalistic orthodontia, children have different concerns. That's where Wild Smiles comes in. Wild Smiles offers brackets in a variety of shapes that turn boring braces into a fun fashion accessory. Patients can even design their own smile either in office or on the Wild Smiles website. The best part is that Wild Smiles are inexpensive and work just as well as regular brackets, so you don't have to compromise between fashion and function. If any of these effective orthodontia alternatives appeal to you, it's time to stop putting off treatment. Make an appointment with a dental clinic to discuss your options and start embracing your new smile. Author Bio Lizzie Weakley is a freelance writer from Columbus, Ohio. Sometimes when you’re dealing with stress and anxiety, you need something natural to help deal with the symptoms. Whether you’re tired of traditional medicine, need it to enhance your treatments, or want to avoid it altogether (with a doctor’s go-ahead), fighting stress and anxiety with DIY essential oil remedies can help. Clary Sage Essential Oil Sugar Scrub When it comes to DIY essential oil remedies for stress and anxiety, clary sage is near the top of many lists. It helps kill germs, while also aiding in the relief of stress and anxiety. To make your own DIY essential oil sugar scrub, you’ll need 6 tablespoons of organic fair trade sugar, 4 teaspoons of sweet almond oil, and fifteen drops of clary sage essential oil. Mix these in a glass jar and use to scrub your body up to twice daily. This can help with fighting stress and anxiety at the end of the day or any time. Chamomile and Lavender Calming Face Rub Lavender and chamomile are two DIY essential oil remedies for fighting stress and anxiety that are commonly used together. This is because their calming effects complement each other well. To make a DIY calming face rub, all you need is coconut oil or olive oil and 8 drops each of chamomile essential oil and lavender essential oil. If you use coconut oil, make sure it’s organic and unrefined. Stir the ingredients in a glass jar until well blended. Rub into the face up to twice daily for calming benefits. As a bonus, this is also great for anti aging and moisturizing. Invigorating Citrus Body Spray All of the citrus essential oils are great for anxiety, stress relief, and even depression. These oils are very uplifting and help to create a feeling of happiness. As a bonus, they also kill germs and smell great. To make your invigorating citrus body spray, simply fill a personal sized metal spray bottle almost to the fill line with water. Next, add 8 drops each of grapefruit essential oil, lemon essential oil, and wild orange essential oil. Shake and then spray on the body as you would any other body spray. This is a fun way to get your aromatherapy in. The body spray can be applied a few times per day. Vetiver Ankle, Wrist, and Muscle Rub Vetiver may well be one of the best DIY essential oil remedies for fighting stress and anxiety. Not only is it calming, but it also has anti inflammatory, stress relief, pain relief, anxiety, and sedative properties. It also can help create an uplifting mood. To create a muscle, ankle, and wrist rub with this essential oil, simply place 8 drops per ounce of organic unrefined coconut oil in a small jar. When you’re feeling down, you can rub a little on your ankles and wrists for aromatherapy. If you’re also experiencing muscle aches and other pains, you can also apply the rub to the affected area. This can be used up to twice daily as needed. ARTICLE LAST UPDATED 5/10/2021
by Sharon Sherbina, NYR Organic Poison Awareness Month Post #2 As a consultant working for a company that sells essential oils, I feel morally obligated to provide information to people that may not be provided to them by the general public or other EO companies. March is Poison Awareness Month and it's the perfect time to address essential oils as a potential hazard if not used with care and best practices. Are you under a doctor's care? Do you have children? Do you have pets? These are all important questions that should be answered and researched before "diving in" to essential oils. Essential Oils can STILL be a wonderful part of your health journey, but unsafe practices, primarily the daily ingestion of oils, is not considered safe, and should only be done under the care of a highly qualified practitioner. In 2010, over 10,000 cases of essential oils poisoning was reported to poison control centers. The majority of these were children UNDER AGE FIVE. This number has increased EVERY year. To look at the actual statistics, including deaths that occurred, access the data system with the American Association of Poison Control Centers' Annual Reports of National Poison Data Systems (NPDS). This issue is not one to be taken lightly. One of my favorite oils right now is Niaouli, and when used appropriately, has many health benefits: 1. Clears congestion in respiratory system 2. Reduces body temperature during fever 3. Stimulates growth and strengthens immunity 4. Helps stimulate circulation of blood and lymph 5. Gives relief from rheumatism, arthritis, and gout 6. Diminishes scars and after marks left by acne and pimples 7. Protects wound against bacterial growth, sepsis and tetanus Pregnant women should not use this one. It should also not be used near your mucous membranes, or ingested orally. Essential oils are wonderful, but let's use them with best practices to ensure that we will be able to freely use them for a long time to come! Author Bio:
I’m opposed to author bios, for much the same reason that I’m opposed to framing artwork. Intellectually we know that art goes beyond the frame, and that the frame is an artificial construct. Sounds crazy, right? Everyone you know is "into" essential oils suddenly, and furthermore, dozens of companies are promoting the ingestion of them on a daily basis. Anecdotally and statistically, we are seeing more and more stories of more harm being done than good, and if we keep going down this road, the pendulum of public opinion is going to swing to the completely opposite direction, and everyone will be avoiding essential oils. I think it's important to be aware of a couple of things when considering essential oils. Oils, tinctures, tonics, rubs, scrubs, poultices, draws, and other medicinal usages have been utilized for thousands of years. Plants are AMAZING, and have incredible properties to alter our bio-states. Oils, especially, because they are the most potent part of the plant's essence. And because it is the most potent part, we can't just turn hundreds of years of apothecary and botanical science upside down, and advise people that the daily of ingestion of oils is good. It's not. People are getting sick. People have overdosed. Children and pets have inadvertently been exposed and harmed and NO ONE wants that to happen. Through the month of March, I will be bringing more and more attention to this dangerous trend, and how YOU can utilize BEST PRACTICES in the safe usage of most oils, OR find a reputable practitioner to oversee your ingestion regimen, if something that drastic is required. Stay safe and ask good questions! ![]() Author Bio: I’m opposed to author bios, for much the same reason that I’m opposed to framing artwork. Many kids have a fear of the dentist. All those tools that dentists use can be frightening for a kid at first glance. Understanding what those tools are and what they each do can help. Kids also need to know that the dentist is there to help. With a few fun activities and a dose of education on dentists, you may be able to ease dental fears in kids.
Tooth Talk The first step in getting kids comfortable with dentists is discussing why they need to go. Explain that dentists need to make sure their teeth are healthy and clean. Let them play with a toy kit of dental instruments as you emphasize the "coolness" of the tools, rather than the scariness. Role Play With a Dentist Kit After the tooth talk, take turns playing dentist with a dentist kit. Kids and parents can take turns playing the role of dentist and patient. Playing out each role can help your children associate happy feelings with the dentist. Familiarization can help to alleviate your kid's fear of the dentist. Online Interactive Dental Games Some toothpaste companies provide online interactive sections for kids with games and activities that help teach them about the dentist and tooth care. Exploring these with your kids can further familiarize them with the dentist and help to alleviate their fears. Dental Coloring Book Kids love to color. Why not allow them to color a dental coloring book? The pictures will show them what may happen, and some dental coloring books even have a story to read. Many websites also have free dental coloring pages that are printable. Useful Tips Remember, to a child, dentists may be perceived as strangers with scary tools. To alleviate your child's fear of the dentist, familiarize your child with common dental tools and what they are for. If your child has a friend or sibling that has already been to the dentist, let that child explain to yours how fun the visit was. Sometimes hearing it from another kid can help alleviate your kid's fear of the dentist. Talk to the dentist about your kid's fear. Sometimes they have helpful tips and may also have ways to calm the child during the visit. Many dentists will even give the kids a special signal they can use that means stop. When the kid uses this signal, the dentist will know that he or she is uncomfortable and will stop for a minute to allow the child to relax. My grandmother is about to turn 80 and suffers from spinal stenosis, a degenerative disease marked by the narrowing of the spine in one or more areas. Because of this, my elderly grandmother walks with a cane and also uses a wheelchair. She is subject to frequent back pain.
When we decided to travel from Philadelphia, Pa., to West Palm Beach, Fla., to visit my mother, it was the first time either of us had brought a wheelchair on our travels. We had to be a bit more mindful of pain management and communication issues. As a chronic back-pain sufferer myself, I understand how some days are harder than others, and how a back-pain sufferer can feel simultaneously mentally awake and physically exhausted after a day of travel. Here are some things I learned to make future travels easier. Make Special Arrangements and Arrive Early The easiest way to help others prepare for a spinal stenosis patient is to make arrangements ahead of time. This includes notifying the airline. My grandmother and I traveled to the airport via hired car. When we made the arrangements, we let the company know that it would take some more time because my grandmother is elderly and suffering from back pain. Stay Organized Many people with spinal stenosis take prescribed pain medication. As someone who also suffers with back pain, I understand how important it is to have access to the right medication at the first sign of pain. Fortunately, my grandmother packed her prescriptions in an accessible location and followed the TSA guidelines (medication should be in its labeled container and then placed in a clear plastic bag). Wheelchair or Cane? Bring Both Like many with spinal stenosis and other back injuries, my grandmother can do limited walking with a cane. Her doctor recommends minimal, manageable mobility. When we traveled, my grandmother primarily remained in her wheelchair. However, we kept her cane accessible as well. This turned out to be very useful, particularly when it came to bathroom trips and navigating down the aisle of the airplane. Learn the Procedures My grandmother and I are both experienced travelers, but neither of us had ever traveled with a wheelchair before. We had to educate ourselves about the proper procedures for traveling with a wheelchair. To prepare, I looked up the following information online:
Additionally, I had to ask for more information in person, especially when it came time to board and disembark the plane. Express Yourself Even experienced professionals sometimes are not sure about how to treat a person who is in a wheelchair or struggling to walk. As my grandmother's caretaker, I found that I had to be particularly clear and assertive at the airport. Instead of asking for the nearest elevator, I had to say, "We are going to Terminal B and my grandmother is in a wheelchair. What is the best way for us to get there?" I found that most staff wanted to be helpful, but were afraid of offending us by assuming that my grandmother and I couldn't manage on our own. I learned that it helped to specifically explain what my grandmother felt comfortable doing before asking for help. When we were ready to board our flight, I told the helpful flight attendant, "My grandmother can walk down the aisle using her cane, but we will need help stowing our luggage." When traveling with a spinal stenosis patient, careful preparation and specific communication greatly minimizes stress. This content was originally published on Yahoo Contributor Network.

Are you coping with chronic migraines? This 'invisible condition' is especially difficult for most people who also have to work or go to school regularly. I'm nearly 32 and have dealt with chronic migraines since age 16.
At this time, I'm a full-time freelancer. I work part-time on-site for a local client and furnish the rest of my work to editors online. Previously, I worked in office and retail environments both full and part-time and learned methods for coping with chronic migraines. Whether behind a desk in an office or making lattes as a barista, these tips have proven most effective for me. Planning Work Schedule In any job, planning your work schedule is the best way to deal with keeping a job while you have chronic migraines. Even as a freelancer, I am conscious of my own hours. I make sure to get up at least an hour before I have to actually start working. This gives me time to deal with a potential migraine by taking medication and drinking coffee before it's time to start working. If I have to head to the office, I avoid tardiness by waking up early enough to deal with a potential migraine. When allowed to set my own work schedule (or when I worked at a coffee shop that asked for my shift preference), I always select the evenings because I generally develop migraines in the morning. Availability of Medication at Work Being able to take migraine medication at work is integral to being able to work through a migraine. Over the years, I've been on various types of medications. Some medications (as well as the migraines) make me act with a lack of clarity. As an editor and proofreader, this can prove problematic because I need to be attentive and able to catch small errors and track many details. I cope with this by tackling high-concentration and detail-oriented tasks first or ahead of deadline. This way, I don't have to worry about my capabilities if I develop a migraine during the rest of the day. Depending on your work environment, you may need to notify your supervisor or manager about your need to take medication during work hours. Workspace Accommodations A comfortable workspace is key to avoiding migraines and dealing with ones that inevitably occur. In the past, I've felt bad about asking managers to provide workspaces clear of fluorescent lighting and other triggers, but at home I've created my ideal set-up. It includes:
Commuting with Migraines When I worked nearly an hour away from home at a full-time office job, commuting with migraines was the most difficult part of working with my condition. This resulted in unsafe commutes - I shouldn't have been driving under the influence of migraines and powerful medication, and the early morning sun glare only worsened the condition. When I work off-site for a client now, my commute is minimal, making it much safer. When I work at home, I have no commute at all and simply wait until I can get rid of a migraine before I start working. Part of my office commute involved traveling by train. The bright lights and train tracks were particularly difficult, and I was always afraid my migraine would cause me to vomit on the train. Although more expensive, I took to commuting by car when I had a migraine. This way, I could pull over if I had to and I had as much control as possible over my environment. Know When to Quit Working with chronic migraines isn't easy. You need to know when to quit - whether that involves going home for the day or seeking FMLA benefits. If you truly can't handle work conditions, it may be time to find a job with a more accommodating schedule or environment. This ultimately proved best for me. More than anything, I felt like people thought I was using chronic migraines as excuses for getting out of work, leaving early, or not showing up at all. More than a decade ago, my college roommate simply didn't understand what I was feeling or why I would miss class for migraines until she experienced her first migraine. After that, I received more sympathy from her. Unfortunately, this doesn't always happen with bosses and managers, so I've learned to document my visits to the doctor's office and overall just remain prepared. First, you must know where to look for the mold. Mold forms when there is air and moisture. That means you need to check places like your kitchen stove area, dryer area, around your heaters, and windows that may not be properly insulated. Second, you may want to consider using air conditioners in the summer on those dreadfully humid days. Dehumidifiers work well and can be used all year long. You may also want to consider keeping some fans going, as this will circulate the air in your home. Third, when the weather is permissible be sure to open windows and doors. Increasing the ventilation in your home can decrease the chance of moisture turning into mold. Fourth, if leaks occur within the home, clean them up immediately. Water cleaned up with 24-48 hours usually does not turn into mold. If you have a plumbing leak, make an appointment to get it fixed right away. Do not procrastinate on this.
Fifth, always use a fan in the bathroom when taking a hot shower. This will reduce the moisture you are trapping in the bathroom. If you do not have an exhaust fan in your bathroom you really need to get one. The same idea applies when you are running a dishwasher or using your stove. Sixth, make it a point to get your windows checked. Do everything you can to seal them up properly. If possible get double-paned windows. Why is it so important to install proper windows? Condensation is a major mold producer. If the window glass is a lower temperature than the moisture that comes in contact with it, it will turn in to condensation (moisture droplets on your window). Having humidity inside your house with cooler air outside can do this. Properly insulated windows can keep this to a minimum. It is impossible to get rid of all molds because there are always mold spores floating around your home. The problem comes when the mold spores land on a wet surface and begin to grow. If there is no moisture then the spores cannot grow. So if you find yourself with a mold problem you must get rid of the moisture in your home. Just cleaning up the mold will not stop it from growing again. I hope these tips will help you prevent a future mold problem in your home. Do we take life for granted? When you’re young you have the feeling of invincibility and you see yourself living for a long time and retiring at an age where you can still enjoy the fruits of all your labor. You expect your health to be at a point that while you may feel the early stages of arthritis, it’s nothing that’s going to incapacitate you. But what if life throws you a curve ball and right at the time you were ready to retire, you have a stroke? My sister-in-law was the unfortunate victim of a "apoplexy", better known nowadays as a stroke, at the age of 67. On November 21, 2013 the person that we all knew, the person that was so full of fun and laughter, the person who kept us amazed at the way she could emulate Patsy Cline at her impromptu concerts at the kitchen table, was unable to communicate. Sandra Kaye Lambdin was the last person we thought would become a total invalid and as a matter of fact, we thought she would be the one rocking on the front porch telling the old stories to the grandchildren long after most of us had gone.. There were no signs of heart trouble prior to the stroke so needless to say we were all caught by surprise. Truth is, more than 200,000 Americans die of strokes each year and hundreds of thousands are incapacitated by this sudden “striking down” affliction. It’s times like these that we really come to grips with our vulnerability and realize just how fragile the human brain is. Each part of the brain is involved with a different part of human activity; one part controls speech, one part controls the arms and legs on one side of the body, another controls the muscles in the mouth and so on. A stroke is the stoppage of blood to certain parts of the brain and it can be caused by a number of disorders or malfunctions in the blood vessels. There are different kinds of strokes and they go from mild, little strokes, to massive in which it may not be fatal, but it will immediately be reflected in some parts of the body. It is said that a non-fatal massive stroke patient has a life expectancy of 3 to 5 years of unrecognizable faces, lost memories and constant seizures. Sandy was the one spoiling all the grandchildren and knew exactly what each one wanted for Christmas. Grandchildren who now are just shadows in her mind. She spends her days straining to understand what her daughter Tina is trying to tell her, but after a while she becomes so frustrated that she lashes out in what can only be described as a damnation of her solitary confinement inside of a now irreversibly damaged brain. She cannot speak and for us to see someone who spent her life as a saleswomen, and who possessed the proverbial “gift of gab” with a singing voice that could give Dolly Parton a run for her money, it’s heartbreaking. And even though it looks like Sandy’s brain is permanently afflicted, there is the thought that she can think clearly but she just doesn’t have the ability to communicate. That could be the main reason for her bouts of anguish and despair that has become her constant companion. Recovering from a massive stroke sometimes requires months or even years of intensive physiotherapy to prevent the deterioration of muscle. Sandy now requires constant care which required moving her out of her home where she lived alone and into her daughter’s house where she could be easily cared for. That officially gives her daughter Tina the title of caregiver and we all know, especially military families, the gamut of difficulties that goes with that title. Are there warning signs that a stroke is imminent? They say that many of us have warning signs in the form of unnoticed “little strokes”. Dr Walter Alvarez, an authority on these little strokes once stated ; “One of the commonest diseases of man, is that in which, over the course of 10 or 20 years, a person is gradually pulled down by dozens or scores of thromboses (clots) of little arteries in the brain .” In reality these little strokes are common but physicians are not familiar with all the peculiar things that happens to individuals who have these little strokes, and therefore they go unnoticed. Little strokes are an indication that all is not well inside the blood vessels that feed oxygen to the brain. Recognizing little strokes and acting swiftly could prevent the “big stroke”, the one which leaves the permanent injuries including paralysis.. Strokes do not discriminate and age makes very little difference so everyone should be familiar with the warning signs of a possible stroke. The American Heart Association uses the acronym F.A.S.T., Face drooping, Arm numbness, Speech difficulty, Time to call 911. Time is the enemy here, and you want to get medical attention immediately if you feel any symptoms that you think is associated with a stroke.. Whether one recovers from a stroke depends on the severity of the stroke and how long the brain was without oxygen.. Sandy survived the stroke in the sense that she is still breathing, and her heart still beats, but how do you define her quality of life? We are all happy that she is still with us, but it shows in her face everyday that she is not. We may call it a blessing, but knowing Sandy as I do, she’d be quick to call it a curse. And I would have to agree with her. DLTPONCH33 Bentyl (dicyclomine) is a prescription drug that is most often given to patients as a treatment for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), an intestinal condition. Some patients report that Bentyl causes dry mouth. Bentyl is prescribed to relieve gastrointestinal muscle spasms associated with IBS. Bentyl is one brand name for dicyclomine. Dicyclomine is also available in generic form. It is an antispasmodic and anticholinergic agent.
Bentyl and Xerostomia (Dry Mouth, Cotton Mouth) According to MedicineNet and Drugs.com, Bentyl has varied side effects, including a moderate instance of xerostomia, also known as dry mouth or cotton mouth. As stated on Drugs.com, in regards to pharmacological data involving a group of clinical trials, a little more than one third of patients taking Bentyl (dicyclomine) for IBS reported experiencing xerostomia. Dry mouth happens when the body is not producing enough saliva. Symptoms of xerostomia can include a dry feeling in the mouth, the frequent need to drink fluids, mouth sores, cracks in the lips, a dry throat, burning or stinging in the mouth or throat, a red or dry tongue that may also be raw, difficulty with normal mouth functions (tasting, chewing, speaking, swallowing), hoarse voice, dry nasal cavities, bad breath and a sore throat. How to Get Rid of Xerostomia Caused by Bentyl To cure xerostomia, there are varied choices. The right one will depend on the individual. One might want to first try using a fluoride mouth rinse, as well as being sure to brush the teeth with fluoride toothpaste. Sucking on hard candies or chewing gum may also help dispel the xerostomia. Just be sure that it is sugarless. A more obvious option is to also drink plenty of water and even suck on ice chips. Sometimes breathing through the mouth can cause or worsen xerostomia, so try to concentrate most breathing to the nasal area. There also are saliva substitutes sold over the counter at most pharmacies. In addition, using a room vaporizer to moisturize the air could help reduce xerostomia. If none of these options is working, another way to get rid of the xerostomia is to reduce the dosage of the medicine being taken. However, this may also reduce the efficacy. Discuss this and other options with your doctor. Switching to a Bently alternative, such as glycopyrrolate, methscopolamine bromide or propantheline bromide, might help as a last resort. Be sure to weigh the pros and cons with your physician. Getting rid of xerostomia is of course one possible benefit. However, be sure you discuss possible downsides to switching as well. *The author is not a medical professional. This guide is intended for informational purposes only. Kauffman, Contributing Writer Stress can have different affects on the human body, which is why there is not a one medication or approach to handling mental stresses in life. Some people try using stress management techniques, but they don’t always work. Whenever, you are in the stressful situation, sometimes these techniques you have learned will help. Other times, they don’t work and you may get angry at the situation you are in that is causing stress or depression.
Therefore, there are other tips and tricks that someone can try, in order to relieve their anxiety or stress. The stress management techniques focus on helping a person change themselves or their situation whenever they can. However, sometimes a person cannot change a major stressor in their life for some reason. These situations can cause too much stress and anxiety, which may lead to a depressive mood. A person needs to change their way of thinking and behavior, when learning healthier ways to cope with the situation. They begin by changing their thoughts, their lifestyle, emotions, and the way the react to certain situations. However, some people need other ways to alleviate stress like: physical activity, keeping a journal, medication, and prayer or spiritual help. Keeping a stress journal can help the patient or the doctor to discover exactly what the stress triggers are and how they can avoid those stresses all together. Some people will need medication to help their anxiety level, while others can do simple breathing exercises. Many people just need to take time out of their busy day and stop to relax while smelling the roses. The patient can get on the right treatment plan and start their journey towards feeling better. Additionally, the patient’s mental health and stress level can make them sick and cause other issues like: anxiety or depression. A person should never be afraid to ask for help, because they just might find healthier ways to handle stressful situations. Learning new coping techniques can help lessen the stress level that a person is dealing with. An overwhelming stress can affect a person’s mental and physical health, but exercise and learning healthy coping skills can help alleviate stress. Therefore, it is important for people of all ages to see a doctor, whenever they are feeling overwhelmed by the stresses in their life. Personal Experience

Media Staff From physical to mental, to fun and exploration, try trail walking regularly for your health. You may find the results are surprisingly refreshing. It can also give you something new and fun to focus on. Whether you've been on the trails before or haven't given it a second thought, it may be beneficial to your physical and mental well-being to add regular trail walking to your schedule.
Help Keep Your Body Energized Walking is a great way to increase energy. While it may seem that physical activity would take away energy, the opposite is true, in healthy doses. Physical exertion, such as walking, can increase endorphin presence. This causes a natural energy, sometimes referred to as “runner's high”. In addition to an increase in energy levels, walking can also help some people have a more positive outlook. This is also due to the increased endorphin release. Free Your Mind With Nature Viewing nature can help free your mind and give you something wondrous to think about and enjoy. It's good for mental health to enjoy mind-freeing activities wherever possible. Take a look around. Enjoy the trees, birds, and other wildlife while trail walking. Is there water? Relax and listen to the sounds it makes. Take time to really see and study what's around you. Explore Your Area in a New Way Sometimes, while going about daily life, it's easy to miss what's really around you. From the city sidewalks and streets, it may be readily evident what's available by simply taking the trails instead. Trail walking can help you explore your area in a whole new way. There may be much more to your city or town than you realize. Get to know it even more by regularly walking various trails available. Most cities have them near parks, canals, and elsewhere.

Alzheimer's and dementia prevention is a continuous learning process for medical researchers. While some prevention methods for these diseases show positive results, there still are many factors to consider. Below are some possible ways to help prevent Alzheimer's and related dementia. While Alzheimer's Disease and dementia are two different diseases, dementia can sometimes be a symptom of Alzheimer's. Improving memory and brain function can aid in prevention of both.
Exercise the Body Studies have shown that physical movement, such as exercise can help with memory and cognition. Activities such as playing basketball, swimming, hiking, yoga, and bike riding all are forms of exercise class. Other options include taking fitness classes, going for walks, playing at the playground with children or grandchildren, or even just strolling around the wall. Exercise the Mind Exercising is not all about physical movement either. The main needs constant stimulation as wel. Reading, writing, math problems, board games, card games, and word puzzles are several ways to keep the brain working. Consider going to school or taking an educational class on any point of interests. This could mean either hobbies, possible career ventures, or even both. Stay Social Taking the classes mentioned above is one way to stay social. Also think of going to events, get-togethers with family and friends, group camping, and more. Any time spent interacting with others in a positive way may aid in the prevention of Alzheimer's and dementia. Eat a Healthy, Balanced Diet Eating a healthy balanced diet consistently has also shown to be a prevention method for both Alzheimer's and dementia. Talk to your doctor and nutritionist about the types of foods you should be eating and stick to the plan. Maintaining a regular and healthy diet is a great way to aid in preventing dementia and Alzheimer's. It's a also a great way to take care of your body and health in general. Omega-3 fatty acids, vegetables, and fruits are all especially good for this purpose. Take Vitamins Regularly Taking the appropriate vitamins daily as directed can aid in disease prevention. Alzheimer's and dementia are no different in this regard. Folic acid, B6 and B12 are extremely helpful, as they help lower homocysteine levels. Lowering homocysteine levels may help slow down progression of Alzheimer's Disease. * Note that the author is not a licensed medical professional. Media Staff Private duty nursing is different for each individual. It is customized around the needs of those who utilize the service. Private duty nursing originated during a time when it was not as common to see high tech departments, such as the intensive care unit (ICU), in a hospital. People who needed special machines and devices often were provided these in their own homes instead of at a hospital. Gradually, it became more common for this type of care to occur in a hospital. However, overpopulation of hospitals and a growing need and desire for the ill, elderly and disabled to remain at home has once again made private duty nursing desirable.
What is Private Duty Nursing? Private nursing is medical care given in the home rather than in a hospital. This service can be used by patients of all ages with various illnesses and disabilities. Services a private duty nurse may provide include nursing services such as administering medications, taking vital signs, operating respirators and more. Services also can be non-medical, such as bathing, preparing meals and cleaning. Skilled private nurses can provide the services associated with medical care. Non-skilled private duty nurses cannot. Is Private Duty Nursing a Good Fit for My Loved One? If your loved one is ill or has a disability, private duty nursing may be an option. Determine the needs of your loved one and consider whether these needs would be best met in a hospital or at home. Also consider the costs in comparison to the benefits. Some people who are ill or have disabilities choose private duty nursing as a means of partially independent living. This can take some of the burden off family and friends and can also help a person feel more independent. Those who will be ill or have a disability for a long period of time may feel more positive about themselves with this type of service. Patients who are severely ill or disabled may simply wish to be at home rather than in a hospital. Private nursing can help make this possible. The Importance of Checking References Before ever hiring anyone for private duty nursing, references must be checked. Is the potential nurse going to be providing any medical services? If so, be sure this person is licensed to do so. Ask for names and numbers of current and previous clients. Do not be afraid to call them. Ask detailed questions about the service. Find out if this person has provided adequate care. It is important to interview more than one person for this type of service. It also is important that not only will the person provide the required services, but that he or she gets along with the patient. *I originally published this via Yahoo Contributor Network

You see them in just about every store you go into, and they are becoming increasingly popular for people who's get up and go has got up and went and they begin to feel tired and drawn out. Now all they have to do is reach in a store's cooler and get an energy drink. After a can of this powerful elixir, the eyes widen and the heart begins to race, and the next thing you know, you can’t find enough things to keep you occupied.
But what’s in these cans of dynamite that recharges and gives the body an energy make-over? Well according to researchers, it’s a "high" dose of caffeine, and with such high doses, they are seeing an increasing number of emergency room visits from "caffeine junkies". The number of visits have doubled in the last 4 years, the same period of time in which these supercharged drinks have gained popularity in convenience stores, bars, and college campuses. From 2007 to 2012, the number of emergency room visits went from 10,000, to more than 20,000. That has forced the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services to declare energy drinks a health problem. Depending on the amount consumed, high doses of caffeine can cause insomnia, nervousness, headaches, rapid heartbeats, and seizures that are severe enough to require emergency care. Emergency room physicians have seen an increase in patients suffering from irregular heartbeats, anxiety, and heart attacks. If you drink 3 16oz cans of an energy drink, that’s equivalent to drinking 15 cups of coffee. Now the makers of these drinks call them completely safe, and drinking them in moderation will not cause any ill effects, but of course they are all profit motivated. And the most recent drink that’s becoming more and more popular is "5 Hour Energy." That little bottle of "go fast" promises 5 hours of pure energy with no ill effects once the "jet fuel" wears off. But the catch here is that not every body has the same metabolism, and what’s okay for one person could be a problem for some one else. So now the choice is yours but I will say this, if you have medical problems, or if your heart is questionable, I would ask your doctor about drinking energy drinks to be safe.

Well now let’s say that it’s been 30 glorious days of bliss, and he or she is all your dreams wrapped up in one beautiful package and you couldn’t be more happier. You decide to let the whole world know that this is the person you want to spend the rest of your life with so you do what millions of others have done in the glee of the moment…. you get a tattoo. And you just didn’t settle for a small discreet tattoo, you had to have one to let the public know that you are here-by dedicating your life to this person.
Now in a perfect world, the love will last forever until "death do you part" and in that case all is well, but what if by some chance it didn’t turn out like that fairy-tale you had envisioned? Getting over the heartbreak and misery is bad enough, but now you have to look at that permanent reminder etched on your skin when you shower, or go to the beach, and if you happen to pursue another relationship, the other party might not take to kindly to you advertising another "brand" so to speak. Getting the tattoo had it’s own risk such as getting hepatitis C from dirty needles being used by numerous unregulated tattoo parlors, and now you have changed your mind and tattoo removal, is a whole new nightmare. Dr. Suzanne Kilmer, a clinical professor at the University of California-Davis, and the founder of the Laser & Skin Surgery Center, has seen more than her share of "tattoo regrets." She has removed more than 20,000 tattoos, and that’s no small accomplishment. Dr. Kilmer is no run of the mill dermatologist, she is a world-renowned, pre-eminent expert in the field of laser tattoo removal and laser skin care. And just knowing that about her qualifications should also tell you that tattoo removal is not going to be cheap. Dr. Kilmer’s work has opened up possibilities for better and faster ways to remove tattoos in a world filled with people obsessed with etching body art on their outermost organ. Tattoo removal is difficult, lengthy, and painful. You can compare it to hot bacon grease spattered on your skin. Or someone smacking you with a stretched rubber band up close. One patient described it as hot oil running under the skin. Lasers deliver hot, powerful pulses through the upper skin to a deeper layer where a tattoo artist has embedded the pigment. And if you think that’s pain, how about the $150 to $1,000 each for the multiple appointments it’s going to take for you to finally get rid of your mistake. So the moral of the story is, find another way to confess your love besides getting a tattoo because if it falls short of forever, the pain of trying to forget the relationship could be two-fold. Waking up to a headache and a bout of sneezing? I've been there numerous times, due to allergies. My allergies have always been somewhat troublesome. When we moved to a humid climate, I quickly found out it can be worse. So, what types of allergens are common in humid climates and what things can be done to avoid them? Read on to find out what I learned through research, as well as personal experience.
What are the Most Common Allergens in Humid Climates? Dust mites are a big problem in humid climates. They thrive in this type of environment and are so microscopic that they can go unnoticed. This may be good for them, but is not so great for those with dust mite allergies. Another allergen very prevalent in humid climates includes mold, which also does well in hot, moist areas. Tree and grass pollen allergens can also be bothersome in humid climates, as the Spring blooming season can last longer than in dry areas. What Allergies Can These Common Allergens Cause? Dust mite allergens can trigger allergies or asthma attacks in those who are allergic. Mold spores can do the same. Allergies triggered by pollen from trees, grass, and weeds is often referred to as allergic rhinitis or hay fever. Symptoms can include a sinus headache, a stuffy nose, sneezing, itchy eyes, itchy nose or throat, and hives. Severe allergies can cause anaphylactic shock, which is extremely rare with these types of allergies, but deadly. Those with severe allergies should stay aware of their triggers, as well as heed the advice of their doctor with medicines and an emergency plan. Where are These Common Allergens Found? Dust mites and mold spores can be found inside the home. They aren't always easy to spot. Mole can be hidden within walls, in attics, under sinks, and in other inconspicuous areas. It thrives in warm, humid climates. Dust mites can be found virtually anywhere. They generally like to hide in carpets, in furniture, on clothing, and on other fibrous surfaces. They also will cling to things such as furnace ducts. Tree and grass pollen, of course will be found outdoors. Can I Avoid Allergens Common to Humid Climates? Avoiding dust mite allergens can involve a regular routine of vacuuming carpets, cloth draperies, throw rugs, and furniture. Also helpful is to use a room dehumidifier in each affected area. This method also helps with mold. Mold inside of a home should be found and removed by mold removal experts. Some molds can be toxic. A good way to avoid some of the effects of pollen allergens is to stay inside during peak hours for the pollen, which are between mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Another option for allergens is to have allergy shots or take prescription or over-the-counter allergy relief. *I originally published this via Yahoo Contributor Network

We hear it all the time from our doctors, " you are healthy but you could stand to lose a few pounds," which tells us that while we feel good, chances are, we are overweight. If you take a look at one of those charts that shows what you’re suppose to weigh at a particular height, many of us can describe ourselves as obese. And let’s face it, if you are more than 50 pounds over the standard weight for your height, you fit the definition of fat according to the chart.
And for some of us, if we are fortunate enough to get down to that "target" weight, we feel noticeably weak for some reason. We all have different densities in bone structure and therefore while the chart says you should weigh 200 pounds you would feel comfortable at 220 pounds. You are the perfect judge of how well you feel and you should relay that to your physician. I am not a doctor and I can only use myself as an example, so make sure you voice your concerns with your primary care physician. There’s been a lot of talk lately about obese children and the campaign to get them to be active 60 minutes a day which is a good thing. A child’s metabolism burns calories at a far higher rate than adults and therefore the 60 minutes of active play could be all that is needed to keep your child at a good weight. Of course a proper diet is also essential and for far too long we have allowed our children to consume massive quantities of junk food if you’ll excuse my use of "conehead" analogy. It may be quite difficult to deprogram your child from junk food and reprogram them to a healthy diet, but it can be done if you make it a family mission. And if your health allows it, you too can join your child in that target session of 60 minutes of activity a day. Eating healthy and being active together not only provides the benefits for which it was intended, but it also allows family bonding which so many families have lost in this digital world we now live in. And there’s one more thing that you might be interested in, and that’s learning to make the most of your mornings. That means eat a healthy breakfast everyday not only because it’s the most important meal of the day, but studies have shown that when you eat a real fortified breakfast, it will boost your energy level a lot more than them so called "breakfast bars." Remember, you are the best judge of how you feel and what you think is healthy for you and your family and diet and exercise is something you can control.
